Launch Report!.

Hey JCA Crew!

It’s been a short while since our last post but that’s because we’ve been incredibly busy launching Japan Comic Aid books to the world!

On May 5th in Aylesbury at an event organised by Dead Universe Comics, our publisher, sounded our arrival in the world! Forsooth! Steve Collier and Andy Clift were on hand to sign copies of The Mystery Boys and Kaiju Steel. The event itself was a huge success with the numbers of people attending far outweighing any event in the shopping centre during recent memory.

Kapow! Comic- con in London was next which took place over the weekend of the 19th- 20th May. In attendance were big names such as Mark Millar, Dave Gibbons, Dan DiDio, Joe Quesada and Jonathan Ross. Steve and Andy were joined this time by Kaiju Steel artist, Lee Killeen and many books were sold. A highlight for the creators had to be Dan Didio sitting down for a chat and buying copies of the JCA Books! A surreal moment to be signing comics for the head of DC!

Feedback from everyone who came to our table was strong and meeting and chatting to fans was great fun. It was lovely to meet you all and we hope to see you all again in the future! The great thing about conventions is that even the creators are fanboys so there’s always a mutual appreciation for one another.

Many thanks to everyone at Dead Universe Comics who made it possible for JCA to be at these events and to everyone we met, promoted us, bought our books and paid us attention. And thanks to the organisers of Kapow! for making the show less about money and a more intimate affair. We’ll see you next year.

Here are a smashing selection of pics from Kapow! :

Were you at the launch event in Aylesbury or Kapow!? We’d love to hear from you. Send us a tweet, facebook message or email via the contact page!

Exclusive: Nowhereville Preview! Read It Here First!

It’s the start of a new week and also the start of Japan Comic Aid‘s pre-launch campaign!

Nowhereville copyright owned by Ken Bastard / Japan Comic Aid.

We have an absolute treat for you today. Thanks to all the support of our fans we’re able to give you an inside glimpse of the amazing Nowhereville written and drawn by Ken Bastard. We are so pleased to have such talented creators working on comic books for us here at JCA.

Nowhereville follows veteran reporter Ben Blake. He’s covered his fair share of heartbreaking stories in the past but the one he is sent to investigate in the woods of Massachusetts will test his belief in the basic goodness of man as well as his sanity. When three children disappear under very mysterious circumstances in a small town during the depression Ben uncovers secrets that should have been best left alone.

What unfolds is a twisty, pulpy tale in the best tradition of American detective comics with a hint of sci-fi. This will be one for comic book fans of every taste.

The following pages give a really good taste of the book and where you think it might lead… Enjoy!

A release date has yet to be set for Nowhereville but it will be very, very soon!

‘Nowhereville’ To Debut March 12th!

Hey everyone!

Again it’s been a while since the last post but we are back with some really exciting news! Those of you who found our website via Facebook or Twitter will know that we have been concentrating on raising our profile a lot over the last weeks and for those who’s feeds have been blanketed with Japan Comic Aid updates, we apologise but this is how a project promotes itself to great effect.

Nowhereville copyright owned by Ken Bastard / Japan Comic Aid.

We said that if we reached 100 followers or Likes on either our Facebook or Twitter feeds we would release an exclusive preview of our first comic book to be published! This book is the incredible ‘Nowhereville’ by the super-talented Ken Bastard. We did it.

So tomorrow (March 12th 2012) at 1pm (UK time) we shall release our exclusive preview so you guys can start being as excited as we are to see it in printed form! The preview will consist of pages from the comic book.

‘Nowhereville’ is a comic in the vein of old school, hard boiled detective pulp but with a sci-fi twist… We know you’ll love it as much as we do and we’re incredibly proud of what Ken has achieved with the book.

If you really want to help us, share this post wherever and however you can, tell your friends, family or complete strangers if you’re that confident!

We write this on the first anniversary of the Great Eastern Earthquake and it is still moving when you try to comprehend the thousands of lives and communities which were wiped from the face of the earth in the space of a few hours. The effects were unimaginable.

This is why we created this project and why we need your support. It’s the people- just like you and I- who need the funds created by Japan Comic Aid so they can rebuild their lives and livelihoods.

Stay tuned tomorrow so you can get that first peek!

You can follow us on Twitter and Facebook. Follow the links on the side to do that if you don’t already. And remember to share this with everyone! Reading comics to help others? Pretty awesome right?!
